Weekend Recap!

A huge thanks to everyone who came out to the Yamantaka//Sonic Titan & Boyhood show on Friday!
The show was really well attended and both bands were amazing! Any one who got a chance to catch the secret White Wires show later on that night was treated to a great performance from them as well as some other performances of various quality happening from a bunch of different local bands ending with 45 minutes of He-ezer, Davey's Weezer cover band.

Saturday was a great time at the Dominion. The Shakey Aches opened and were great! This was my first time seeing them with their 6 piece line-up and it sounded great! Up next were The Polymorphines. I had never seen them before and they put on a really fun show. The crowd was going off for them! The Johnnies finished off the night in fine form ripping through a great set of catchy rock & roll sweetness! Pick up their 7" on Pretty Bad Records immediately!

Checked out the Jay Reatard documentary on Sunday. It was really well done and I highly recommend everyone to go check it out. It's playing tonight and Thursday night at 9 pm. Gives a great inside look into Jay and cuts through some of the myths and bullshit you would hear about him and has some cool interviews with family and friends.

Monday night was as much of a full-on rager as you can have on a Monday night at Babylon! The Dagger Eyes ripped through a dozen songs in twenty or so minutes. Can't wait to hear a record from this trio. The White Wires came up and were really great! No strangers to playing people's kitchen's, basements or any other random show thrown their way this was their first bar show since last year's Ottawa Explosion. They played a great set which included a few new songs as well as some old favorites. If you missed this show, you won't be seeing them for a while but they will have a new lp coming out this summer on Dirtnap Records to tide you over.

Here's a video of them playing Capital Rehearsal Studios on Friday that was filmed by Luca F.

Bruised Knees

Yet another face-melting insertion within the Scotch Tapes and Young Guv lathe series. Two slabs of soylent plastic were necessary to capture the wikked vibrations emerging from Toronto’s Bruised Knees. Eerie, synthetic mellowtones are sandwiched between cultic clamor and shattering shimmer, spinning psychedelic sinusoids around our sonic horizon. The Huckleberry influence runs deep within the wincing metal and triplic drummery; thud, thud, thud, thud, burn burn burn burn. What else lay dorment in Guv’s lair? Grip before the patina groweth.

Karaoke
(ex-Creeping Nobodies, Toronto)

Karaoke do not play Karaoke. They probably wouldn't if you asked. Living and rehearsing in possibly half-haunted buildings has taught them the value of 'living in the now'. Loop-heavy at times, composed of various density, songs hurtle or halt at will, poltergeist-like, or, perhaps, trance-enducing. Karaoke wish to visit you. They will love your basements as much as your colliseums. Invitations to the dance are rarely turned down, though, the dance may be spastic, and on their own terms. All this and more is what Karaoke promise. They put it forth, before you. It is yours to behold. Take it with you, let it possess you, as it might... Karaoke is two. Karaoke is many. Karaoke is a force that they, themselves, can't comprehend. Can you

Caymans (Flourescent Friends, Thames, Clinton Machine)

Future heavyweights, Ottawa's own Joni Sadler and Blake Hargreaves form into a dual pillar of magic sounds to take your mind out of this universe. Know them before the rest of the world.
